The First Week
Sun, 11 Jan 2009

After being sworn into office on Jan. 2, Commissioner Pearson immediately went to work conducting interviews with all District 2 employees. This process put together a more cost effective workforce to better fit the requirements and needs of our residents. For the next couple of weeks, Commissioner Pearson will continue to tweak work
schedules so that employees will be utilized in their most efficient capacities. For example, the plan to re-institute the practice of assigning grader operators to specific areas of the district so residents will be familiar with the worker who maintains their particular area.

Another example is a new policy in which graders will be parked at night in a secure designated place within the area which they operate, thus saving wear and tear on equipment as well as reducing fuel usage. Previously, motor graders drove many needless miles with their blade up to be parked in the district's yard, the town of Meridian and/or Woodcrest Fire Department each evening.

In his first week, Commissioner Pearson has spoken with many constituents about their concerns with road conditions, water tributaries, safety issues, right-of-way interests, etc. Vehicles needing repairs have been fixed and put back into use. Hazardous high use roads untouched for months have been graded and graveled. Work has been accelerated on the bridge being built one-half mile east of Luther Rd on County Rd 75. Weather permitting, it is expected to be completed and open to traffic in late February. Also, construction started on another concrete bridge on County Rd 75, one-quarter mile west of Triple X Rd.

Commissioner Pearson has temporarily halted work on another bridge under construction on Browne Ave east of Midwest Blvd. An inspection by the county's engineer was made to determine how best to bring its construction back into compliance with FEMA requirements. Work should resume in the third week of January with completion in late March or early April.

District 2 has been found deficient by state auditors in maintaining a running total of consumable assets such as fuel and rock. New procedures to correct this are being studied and will soon be put in place.

Commissioner Pearson has an open-office policy. District 2 citizens are encouraged to call him at 282-3405 and give ideas on how he can best benefit Logan County!
