Pearson said the funds should enable 5 inches of asphalt to be placed on Camp Road from Interstate 35 east to Pine St., and on Pine St. from Camp Rd. south to Seward Rd. Construction is set to begin as soon as this fall.
The funds will come from Oklahoma's Industrial Access Transportation funds in order to provide appropriate access for the Mid-America Wakesports park located at Camp Road and I-35. Mid America Wakesports foresees the possibility of investing more than $5,000,000 in their facilities and inventory and creating 16 new full-time jobs. Pearson said Logan County District 2 worked in conjunction with the owners of the park in order to win state approval.
Pearson said the funding will also greatly assist the residents of the fast growing Pine St. and Seward Rd. area as they will now have a second option to go north into Guthrie without having to traverse a dirt road.
"Finding funds for paving Pine St. is a matter of the utmost importance and hopefully this will be just a first step in the effort to improve Pine so that it can handle the heavy traffic load it is experiencing," Pearson explained.
This is the second announcement in recent weeks of road funding being awarded by the state to Logan County District 2 roads. On June 10 a state board approved long term funding for the paving of 5 miles of Midwest Blvd. in the south part of the county and 10 miles of Luther Rd. in the east part of the county.
This will be the first time in a number of years that Logan County has won approval of an expenditure from the Industrial Access funds. Pearson said that being able to access this fund is especially helpful as no local match, other than in-kind labor, is required..
When he took office in January, Pearson put a program in place to work towards bringing in the necessary funding for county roads. "We are going to continue to look everywhere we can for funding for county roads," Pearson said.
